George Strait information and short bio

George Strait is a legendary country music artist with hits spanning 4 decades. Strait holds the number 2 spot behind Conway Twitty
for the most country music chart topping hits, with 51 and is still touring today and playing some of the biggest and most popular concert halls and event centers around the country. Strait started as early as high school in a rock band but preferred country music citing singers Merle Haggard, George Jones, Bob Wills and Hank Williams as his
biggest musical influences. His first major band was when he was in the army in a band called Rambling Country and was also called Santee while he was off the Army base with the rest of the band.
In 1979, Strait graduated from Southwest Texas State University and joined a band called Ace in the Hole while in college. The band never took off but a record executive from MCA records noticed Strait and signed him up for a solo album in 1981.
In 81, Strait recorded his first top single titled "Unwound". "Unwound" was his first single and his first Top Ten hit. Unwound was succeeded by "Down and Out" and then a whole slew of number 1 records came to be, starting with "Fool Hearted Memory" in 1982. George Strait was one of the best-selling country singers of the 1980s, and one of the few mainstay country acts, who survived the influx of pop-country singers like Billy Ray Cyrus and Garth Brooks in the early 1990s.
Another fact is that George holds career record for Country Music Association (CMA) nominations with 73.
