| John Mellencamp sometimes misspelled John Mellancamp or John Melloncamp is a musician that truly speaks to
his audience. His unique brand of rock music is critical of America at times, but also embraces it and speaks of what is
great about growing up, small towns, and life in general. John Mellencamp began recording in the 1970's under the moniker Johnny Cougar. Mellencamp, never like the name, which was used because
his real name (Mellencamp) was too long and possibly to hard to pronounce, although everyone knows it now! In 1982, Mellencamp came out with two highly successful hits with two very catchy rock driven songs,
"Jack and Diane" and "Hurts so Good". In 1983 Mellencamp released the album Uh-Huh as John Cougar Mellencamp to transition into his real name
The album hit number 9 on the charts and contained great songs in "Crumblin' Down" and "Pink Houses," as well as the Top 15 "Authority Song." After recording and releasing Uh-Huh, John Mellencamp toured the U.S.
to sold out arenas and proved that he could also be a good studio act as well as a live concert performer.
In 1985 Mellencamp released Scarecrow which headed up to number two on the Billboard music charts.
The hit songs on the album Scarecrow were "Lonely Ol' Night," "Small Town," and "R.O.C.K. in the U.S.A.", all of which would become top 10 singles.
