The Cleveland Indians will be looking to have a season as successful as last year's, but fans holding Indians tickets are hoping better results will come of it. Having by no means a bad year with 93 wins last season, Cleveland still managed to miss the MLB playoffs being outdone by the Chicago White Sox who won 99 games en route to becoming the World Series Champions and the surging Boston Red Sox who finished the season battling with the Yankees but coming away with 95 wins, enough to win the wild card and keep Cleveland out of the post season. After looking like they had a playoff run in the bag, the Indians suffered what was a crushing final week of the season last year, losing six out of their final seven games. The good news is that practically all of the players who got them to 93 wins in the first place will be returning and there is no good reason to expect they cannot put up a similar if not better performance this year. Aaron Boone, Johnny Peralta, Ron Belliard, and Ben Broussard will all be returning to the infield at Jacob's field. Victor Martinez, one of the best catchers in the league will also be returning. Grady Sizemore will anchor the outfield once again, but while Casey Blake will be returning to right field, the popular Coco Crisp was traded to Boston in exchange for setup man Guillermo Mota and third base prospect Andy Marte. Taking Crisp's place will be Jason Michaels, who was acquired from Philadelphia for Arthur Rhodes. Cliff Lee, C.C. Sabathia, Paul Byrd, and Jason Westbrook will be returning to the starting rotation, while Jason Johnson will take the place of Kevin Millwood, who left to sign with the Texas Rangers. Bob Wickman remains as the closer on a solid relief staff that includes Fernando Cabrera, Scott Sauerbeck, and Rafael Betancourt. While the Indians no longer have David Riske or Arthur Rhodes, they plan on using Mota to be their set-up man and hope veterans Danny Graves and Steve Karsay will be able to return to form. The Indians have last year's disappointment fresh in their minds and manager Eric Wedge plans to have another successful year. Fans will also be buying Indians tickets expecting to see the team win over 90 games this year. Hopefully there will be no issue about their win total being enough to make the playoffs.
