There’s something special about NBA basketball tickets to see a brand new team.
The Charlotte Bobcats are just in their second year and already Rookie of the
Year Emeka Okafor is tearing up and down the court and wowing fans. Despite an
awful 18-64 record in 2004-05, fans will be lining up for Bobcats tickets to the
state-of-the-art Charlotte Bobcats Arena to see newly drafted hometown heroes
Raymond Felton and Sean May from the University of North Carolina play this
year. Coupled with the Cats’ already stingy defense, the offensive firepower of
Okafor, Felton, and May could be all that Charlotte needs to surprise the
Southeast Division.
Head coach Bernie Bickerstaff’s vision for his young team is one of commitment,
heart, and drive. He is building a young team with a never-say-die attitude and
felt that he was successful in that respect in 2004-05. There may not have been
a lot of wins, but Bobcats ticket holders saw a group of young players play
their hearts out night after night, and could see in the team’s prospects for
the future. Look for more of the same in 2005-06, as the Cats continue to take
shape.
While many critics called the Charlotte draft picks of local UNC players a ploy
to sell tickets, Felton and May aren’t exactly chumps on the court. Add in
Brevin Knight’s surprising season (he finished second in the NBA in assists) and
the strong front line of Primoz Brezec and Gerald Wallace, and fans can see that
Bickerstaff is setting the team up for their first playoff appearance. Maybe not
this season, but soon. Bobcats ticket holders are ready.
