Past NBA All Star Game info - 2006 NBA All Star Game info

After a year of negotiations and speculation, the National Basketball Association officially selected Houston's Toyota Center as the site of the February 2006 NBA All-Star Game. The annual mid NBA season classic will be in the town of the big man and NBA superstar,Yao Ming, who will have a great shot at playing in front of his home town, especially since Shaq is in the East. Houston's Minutemaid park was also host of the 2005 MLB All Star game.  The All star game always is a high flying extravaganza and starts out with the NBA Rookie All Star game featuring 1st and 2nd year players in the daytime on Saturday and on Saturday night other stars come out to shine in the skills competition. The two main NBA competitions feature the 3 point contest where sharpshooters compete and see who can hit the most shots around the 3 point perimeter and the slam dunk contest in which acrobatic NBA stars try to figure out creative ways to dunk a basketball and are judged by a panel of judges sometimes featuring NBA greats and other luminaries. The dunk contest is always very exciting, and the three point contest can sometimes be nail biting. In years past, one of the most famous 3 point shootout champions, Larry Bird, won the contest on his final rack beating out the likes of Dale Ellis and other sharp shooters. On Sunday night the NBA All-Stars come out and shine, and NBA superstars such as Kobe Bryant, Allen Iverson, Houston's own Yao Ming, Shaquille O'neil and others will gain the spotlight and play in a NBA Eastern conference vs. Western conference showdown. Lots of actors, famous people and local dignitaries will be on hand for the game which is always a high scoring and fun to watch affair, usually there is also a star studded and sometimes even a surprise concert/halftime show. Be sure to be there but don't wait long, because NBA All Star Game ticket are some of the toughest tickets to get.
