NY Knicks info New York Knicks tickets at Madison Square Garden used to be some of the hottest tickets in Manhattan. When Patrick Ewing and company patrolled the home court, there was not a more feared place to play. That’s not really the case anymore. Ewing has been replaced by Eddy Curry, a straight-out-of-high-school raw talent that never failed to develop anything but a heart problem. Curry joined the team this offseason along with the one bright spot for the Knickerbockers, Coach Larry Brown. Brown knows a thing or two about winning in the NBA. He has coached all over the league before molding his masterpiece, the 2004 NBA Champion Detroit Pistons. Brown looks to instill a defensive mindset in this New York team, and help point guard Stephon Marbury take the final step towards being a superstar. The Knicks have one of the most storied histories in the NBA. From 1964 to 1974 players like Walt Frazier, Dave DeBusschere, Bill Bradley, and the great Willis Reed established a golden era for the Knicks. New York took home NBA championships in 1970 and 1974 as the Knicks defined themselves as a part of the NBA elite. The defining moment of that period came during the 1970 NBA Finals versus the Lakers, when a hobbled Reed limped onto the floor right before tip-off, jumped center, and scored the first two points of the game. Knicks tickets holders erupted, and the Lakers never recovered the momentum of this legendary NBA moment. Patrick Ewing endeavored to restore the glory years for the Knicks when he arrived in 1985 from Georgetown University. His efforts made the Knicks a perennial NBA Playoff team, but management was never able to find the right complimentary player for the dominant center. It did not help that Michael Jordan came into his own around that same period and made a habit of humiliating the Knicks in the playoffs. Some of Jordan’s greatest games came at the expense of the Knicks in front of their Madison Square Garden ticket holders. Ewing was only able to advance out of the Eastern Conference after Jordan retired to play baseball. His Knicks punched their first ticket to the NBA Finals in over 20 years, only to bow out to Ewing’s nemesis at the center position, Hakeem Olajuwon and the Houston Rockets. Now Knicks ticket holders hope that Brown can develop Curry into a new fearsome presence in the paint. Curry has shown flashes at times, but has not developed as hoped. Brown will begin by centering the offense on Marbury for now, and hope to bring Curry along over time. If this approach works, the New York Knicks could be the team to beat this year in the Atlantic Conference.
