Phoenix Suns info

With the best record in the NBA in 2004-05, the sun was certainly shining on Phoenix Suns ticket holders. For their performance, head coach Mike D'Antoni won the Coach of the Year award, while Steve Nash was named MVP of the NBA. Backed up by the outstanding play of Amare Stoudemire and Shawn Marion, the Suns made it all the way to the Western Conference finals, only to be beaten by the San Antonio Spurs in five games.

In the offseason, the Suns have looked to bolster their defense by adding big man Kurt Thomas, as well as the defense-oriented free agents like Raja Bell, Brian Grant and James Jones. Stoudamire will miss the beginning of the 2005-06 NBA season due to his microfracture surgery, but fans aren’t worried. Suns tickets are moving at a fever pace, and when your team is lead by the coach of the year, you know you’ll be back in the playoffs for another shot at the title.

And then there’s Steve Nash. A natural leader on the floor, the MVP shines as one of the best point guards in the NBA. He almost single-handedly turned the Suns from a mediocre team to an NBA powerhouse last year with his outstanding fast-break passing and double-digit assists. Phoenix fans know the little man from Santa Clara is the Suns ticket back to the playoffs.

The Suns first came to Phoenix in 1968, but it took them into 1976 to make it to the NBA Finals, where they were beaten by the Boston Celtics. Phoenix fans who had Suns tickets to the triple-overtime game five of that championship series know that they were treated to one of the greatest contests in NBA history. From 1988 to 2001, the Suns made to the playoffs every year, until the sun set on their success when they traded Jason Kidd away. But the Suns would soon rise again in Phoenix.

No one expected much from Phoenix in 2004, and many analysts wrote the team off in the preseason. Phoneix fans knew better. They knew a Suns ticket was a ticket to some great basketball. With Nash’s skills, Stoudemire’s amazing dunks, and Marion’s sweet shooting, the Suns rose to the occasion and posted the best record in the NBA. Their defense was a little suspect however, and it may have cost them in the end. But with Raja Bell stepping in for the loss of Joe Johnson, the Suns aren’t too worried. They’ll be back in 2005-06, packing the America West Arena to capacity night after night, as fans line up around the block for their chance to buy Phoenix Suns tickets!
