"East is East and West is West and ne’er the twain shall meet." Forget that. The
East and the West will definitely meet and they’ll meet on the field in San
Francisco at SBC Park in the Emerald Bowl. December 29, 2005 is the date to
remember and Emerald Bowl tickets are what you want. That’s because this year’s
Emerald Bowl is a showdown between the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets of the
Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) and the Utah Utes of the Mountain West
Conference.
The Utes battled their way to a postseason berth with a 6-5 overall record and
went 4-4 in the Mountain West, but it took a gutsy overtime win at BYU to lock
down the invitation. Quarterback Brett Ratliff, in his first collegiate start,
threw four touchdown passes in the game. The last was a 25-yard strike to wide
receiver Travis LaTendresse in the overtime period to seal the deal. Keep an eye
on The Utes came on strong in the last part of the season, winning three of
their last four games and are on a hot streak heading into the Emerald Bowl.
Georgia Tech earned their Emerald Bowl tickets with a 7-4 record in the ACC. The
Yellow Jackets are ranked #24 in the nation and pulled off some major upsets in
2005. They opened their season by traveling to Auburn and leaving with a 23-14
upset over the 16th ranked Tigers. In November, the blew away the #3 ranked
Miami Hurricanes 14-10 in Miami. Keep an eye on sophomore wide receiver Calvin
Johnson. Johnson scored six touchdowns this season while catching 52
passes for 869 yards. With Reggie Ball at quarterback and running back P.J.
Daniels, best known for his 306 yard performance in last year’s Humanitarian
Bowl, the Yellow Jackets will be a handful. The City by the Bay may be
feeling some ground tremors when the Emerald Bowl gets underway. Two top notch
teams will hit the turf at SBC Park, home of the San Francisco Giants, on
December 29, 2005. Get your Emerald Bowl tickets early and get in on the
postseason action as the Utes and the Yellow Jackets fight for Emerald Bowl
bragging rights.
