Motor City bowl ticket info If you’re a college football fan and haven’t had the chance to see Memphis running back DeAngelo Williams, buy Motor City Bowl tickets and make plans to spend some holiday time in Detroit. Williams and the Tigers will be in town to take on bowl newcomers, the Akron Zips on Dec. 26 at dazzling Ford Field, home of Super Bowl XL. Led by the prolific quarterback-receiver tandem of Luke Getsy and Domenik Hixon, Akron pulled out a thrilling 31-30 last-second victory over Northern Illinois in the MAC Championship Game to earn its Motor City Bowl tickets. Trailing by six with just 10 seconds remaining, Getsy hooked up with Hixon on a 38-yard touchdown pass to send the Zips to a bowl game for the first time in school history. Their reward stands 5-10, wears a No. 20 blue jersey and is college football’s active leading rusher. One of top backs in all of college football and a likely NFL first-round draft pick, Williams battled through injuries during his senior campaign, but still managed to rush for more than 1,700 yards for the second consecutive season. He had four 200-yard rushing games, including a three-game stretch in which he totaled 684 yards and 10 touchdowns. Tommy West’s injury-plagued team needed every bit of Williams’ heroics in order to earn their Motor City Bowl tickets. Four different quarterbacks have started this season for Memphis, including current starter Marcus Avery, who began the season at wide receiver. Avery leads the Tigers in passing yards. He’s also second on the team in receiving and second in rushing. On the other hand, Akron, despite the loss of current Cleveland Brown Charlie Frye, has received solid quarterback play from Getsy. The first-year starter has passed for 3,000 yards and 19 touchdowns. Hixon has been on the receiving end of seven of Getsy’s touchdown tosses. The senior receiver, who will be playing on Sundays next year, averages more than 16 yards per reception. Memphis has been bowling for three consecutive seasons. Akron has its bowling shoes on for the first time as a Division I-A program. The Tigers love to pound the ball on the ground. The Zips love to zing it around the field. Both teams have mega-offensive stars and can put points up in a hurry. The 2005 Motor City Bowl has offensive explosion written all over it. You’ll want to be at Ford Field in Detroit on December 26.
