Get in on the ground floor of a new college football tradition with Poinsettia
Bowl tickets. Officially known as the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsettia
Bowl, the country’s newest bowl game is set to kick off its inaugural game in
Qualcomm Stadium on December 22, 2005. Bursting onto the scene with a quality
match up, the Poinsettia Bowl is welcoming the United States Naval Academy
Midshipmen and the Colorado State University Rams for the first edition.
The Midshipmen are on a roll, notching their third straight bowl appearance.
Finishing 7-4, including a season ending 42-23 win over Army to claim their
third consecutive Commander-in Chief’s Trophy, Navy presents some serious
challenges for the Rams. Stopping quarterback Lamar Owens has to be #1 on the
list. Owens is the Midshipmen’s leading passer with 1,155 yards. He’s also the
leading rusher, having carried the ball 195 times for 830 yards and 11
touchdowns. But he’s not Navy’s only weapon. Fullback Adam Ballard has stepped
into a primary role late in the season, racking up 192 yards rushing against
Army, capping off a season where he totaled 539 yards and 6 TD’s.
The Colorado State Rams punched their Poinsettia Bowl tickets with a 5-3 record
in the Mountain West Conference, finishing 6-5 overall. The Rams are no stranger
to the post-season, playing in their 9th bowl game in the past 11 seasons.
Colorado State fans will be banking on quarterback Justin Holland and wide
receiver David Anderson to keep the hot streak going. Anderson has re-written
the record books at Colorado State with over 200 career catches and better than
3,000 yards. Holland has passed for 20 touchdowns this season. The Midshipmen
will also have to contend with the running of Kyle Bell. Bell has carried the
ball for over 1,000 yards and 9 touchdowns for the Rams. This trio gives
Colorado State a balanced attack that keeps opponents guessing.
Poinsettia Bowl tickets (sometimes mispelled Poinsetta Bowl tickets or Poinseta
bowl tickets) will keep you up late on Thursday December 22, 2005 but it’ll be
worth calling in sick the next day. With the Midshipmen and the Rams heading for
the Navy town of San Diego, Qualcomm Stadium will be packed with rabid football
fans, uniformed sailors, and a generous dose of Rocky Mountain fever. Get in on
the ground floor of the action at the 2005 San Diego County Credit Union
Poinsettia Bowl.
