Sun Bowl ticket info If you're looking for a low-scoring defensive battle, don't buy Vitalis Sun Bowl tickets. But if offensive fireworks bring a grin to your grill, Sun Bowl tickets should be on the top of your holiday wish list. On December 30 at El Paso's historic Sun Bowl Stadium, the high-powered UCLA Bruins will meet the explosive Northwestern Wildcats for a showdown between the Pac 10 and Big Ten. The first one to 100 might walk away on top. UCLA, led by prolific quarterback Drew Olson and star running back Maurice Drew, scores more than 38 points a game. The Wildcats feature their own standout tandem in quarterback Brett Basanez and freshmen tail back Tyrell Sutton, putting up 31 a game. Defense will definitely be at a premium, and which team comes up with the last stop likely will be crowned Sun Bowl champs. Olson, a 6-3, 225-pound senior, passed for more than 3,000 yards for the second consecutive season. He threw an eye-popping 31 touchdowns with only three interceptions. Drew rushed for 900 yards and 13 touchdowns. A solid receiving option out of the backfield, he also caught 32 passes for 463 yards and four touchdowns. The 9-2 Bruins put at least 40 on the scoreboard eight times in 2005. But the UCLA defense also surrendered over 40 points four times during the season, including in a disheartening 66-19 loss to archrival USC in the regular season finale. UCLA's lenient defense has the Wildcats watering at the mouth. Northwestern's spread offense torched some of the Big Ten's top defenses in 2005. Basanez and company hung 51 on the Outback Bowl-bound Wisconsin Badgers and 49 on the Michigan State Spartans. In his senior campaign Basanez broke numerous Northwestern passing records. He'll go over the 3,500-yard mark in the Sun Bowl. He completed an amazing 80 percent of his passes in wins over Michigan State and Illinois. With Basanez attacking through the air, Sutton punished defenses for more than 1,500 yards and 17 touchdowns, both NCAA freshmen highs. In last year's Sun Bowl, Arizona State back-up quarterback Sam Keller orchestrated a frantic last-minute drive give the Sun Devils a come-from-behind 27-23 victory over the Purdue Boilermakers. As action-packed as that game was, it may seem like a low-scoring affair compared to this year's battle at Sun Bowl Stadium. So if shootouts are your thing, Sun Bowl tickets should be in your pocket.
