Tiger Woods' chip shot hung on the lip of the cup for what seemed like an
eternity. The overflowing crowd that surrounded the 16th green at Augusta
National inhaled simultaneously, and then let out a deafening roar, as Tigers'
Nike ball disappeared for a birdie. It was the kind of moment that golf fans
have become accustomed to at the Masters.
A tradition like no other, the Masters tees off for the 70th time at Augusta
National's immaculate 18-hole layout in the first week in April. From the

Sunday, golf fans lucky enough to score Masters tickets (also called Masters

Dramatic finishes have become an annual occurrence at Augusta. Last year, Woods,
fueled by his dramatic chip-in, held off a sturdy test from Chris DiMarco to win
his fourth green jacket. Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer are the only other
golfers to win at least four Masters titles. Nicklaus owns six green jackets,
his last coming in another one of those fabled Masters moments.
At the 1986 Masters, Nicklaus rekindled memories of his past greatness. The
46-year-old shot a back-nine 30 to surge to his sixth Masters victory.
Even with Woods' late heroics last season, DiMarco shot a final-round 68 to
force the 13th playoff in Masters history. Woods would drain a 15-foot putt for
birdie on the first playoff game to capture the title. DiMarco, along with Vijay
Singh, Retief Goosen, Phil Mickelson and Ernie Els, will all be back at Augusta
this year, trying again to take down Tiger. Some of the PGA's young guns also
will be looking some noise at the year's first major. How long before rising
stars like Adam Scott, Justin Rose and Zach Johnson break through? Or will it be
a veteran like Davis Love III or Fred Funk that puts on the green jacket for the
first time?
