2006-07 Calgary Flames ticket and team info
You really haven't lived until you walked down the Red Mile on your way to the
Pengrowth Saddledome with Calgary Flames tickets in your hand. It may not be
as wild and exciting as it was during the 2004 Stanley Cup Finals, but Calgary
fans are always ready for a party. Plus, the Saddle dome is a beautiful facility
with its distinctive parabolic-curve roof and a great place to take in a hockey
game. You can't go wrong with Calgary Flames tickets.
The Star
With the arrival of forward Alex Tanguay in Cowtown, the Flames are suddenly
Stanley Cup contenders. The outstanding winger posted 29 goals with the Colorado
Avalanche last year, and is an instant upgrade to the Flames offense.
Expectations are running high for Tanguay to become the playmaker that the
Flames desperately need to go deep in the playoffs. He should instill confidence
in his teammates and open up opportunities for them to score as well. The Flames
defense can hold its own. The offense is the last piece of the puzzle, and
Tanguay may just be the guy to bring it all together.
The Coach
New head coach Jim Playfair inherits one of the best defenses in the league: the
Flames were the only team to give up less than 200 goals in 2005-06. But the
real challenge for the new coach is going to be getting his offense to produce.
Calgary fans are excited about the change of pace from the dictatorial style of
former coach and GM Darryl Sutter, and Playfair has the talent behind the bench
to lead this team to a successful season.
The Team
Without a doubt, the Flames have the best goalie in the business in Miikka
Kiprusoff. Team him up with defenseman Dion Phaneuf, and that may be all the
Flames need to bring the Cup home to the Saddledome. Calgary Flames ticket
holders expect nothing less. You can be sure that the Flames won't disappoint.
They have all the tools and skills they need to set the ice on fire.
Calgary Flames info
Calgary Flames tickets came within a hair of delivering the NHL ultimate prize
in 2004. Now the Flames are burning to get back into the NHL Playoffs and bring
home the Stanley Cup that eluded them. GM and head coach Darryl Sutter made sure
the Flames stayed together, re-signing key players from the squad and tapping
into the free agent market for some of the best available talent. It’s been a
long wait for the Flames fans, who regularly pack the Pengrowth Saddledome, but
in the 2005-2006 NHL season, the payoff may well come with a return trip to the
playoffs and a chance to watch a Stanley Cup winner. Canadian hockey fans aren’t
waiting around. They’re loading up on Calgary Flames tickets.
The Flames run to the Stanley Cup Finals in 2004 began with a slow start. After
struggling early on, the Flames acquired goalie Miika Kiprusof from the San Jose
Sharks. Kiprusof provided immediate results. The Flames went 13-2-3-0 in the
weeks after his entrance. Finishing with a 42-30-7-3 record, Calgary ended up in
3rd place in the Western Conference to earn a berth in the 2003-04 NHL Playoffs.
The first round was a back-and-forth affair against the Vancouver Canucks.
Battling all the way to a decisive 7th game, the Flames finally eliminated
Vancouver with a thrilling overtime victory. It would take another overtime win
against the Detroit Red Wings in the second round to land a slot in the Western
Conference Finals.
The Flames faced the San Jose Sharks in the Western Conference Finals. Calgary
would turn into road warriors, eliminating the Sharks in six games to become the
first Canadian team in over 10 years to reach the Stanley Cup Finals. The
upstart Tampa Bay Lightning sent Calgary home in disappointment though, winning
the Stanley Cup with a 2-1 Game 7 victory.
Calgary Flames ticket holders have been waiting for a chance to get back into
the Pengrowth Saddledome and cheer their team on to a Stanley Cup. Darryl Sutter
has been making the right moves, retaining his productive players while bringing
in free agents like Tony Amante and Roman Hamrlik. As a result, the Flames will
be immediate contenders in the Western Conference. Canadian NHL hockey fans have
a new darling now and they visit every week by snatching up Calgary Flames
tickets.
