The San Jose Sharks ticket and team info
San Jose Sharks tickets to the
Shark Tank (HP Pavilion for all of you not in "the know") have been sold
since 1993 when computer giant Hewlett-Packard slapped its name on what used to
be the San Jose Arena. Home to the NHL's Sharks, HP Pavilion also serves as home
to San Jose's Stealth lacrosse team and the Sabercats Arena football franchise.
THE COACH
San Jose's skates answer to head coach and former Maple Leaf Ron Wilson. He
began his stint with the Sharks in the 2002 season after four-year stretches as
head coach of Anaheim's Mighty Ducks and the Washington Capitals. Coming strong
out of the gate in the 2006-2007 season, Wilson will be working with
newly-acquired free agents Curtis Brown and Mike Grier. Watch out for Wilson and
his Sharks as forecasts include Pacific Conference dominance and decisive upsets
echoing last year's post-season shut-down of the Vancouver Canucks.
THE STAR
Team captain and career Shark Patrick Marleau had a precocious start, a
1st-round draft pick (2nd overall). At 6'2, 220 lbs., the left-handed center has
an auspicious career ahead of him, having surpassed the 300-point mark in just
six seasons with the NHL. Marleau may not have the breakaway speed of legends
Pavel Bure or Sergei Federov, but his even-handed passing and ability to read
plays far outshines the obvious stats touted by today's media coverage.
THE TEAM
With marquis players like Hart Trophy-winner Joe Thornton and up-and-coming
talent like Vesa Toskala, the Sharks' first 5 games indicated a general sense of
gearing up for battle and an exciting season. Though plagued by quick-sand
losing streaks like their team-defusing 10-game downer last November, the Sharks
have the ability to make a lasting impression this year if they keep up their
special teams, namely their power play-killing. Heavily reliant on their ability
to clear the puck up-ice, however, The Sharks would be more formidable if they
managed to keep their players out the penalty box.
THE ARENA
Open to the public since 1993,
HP Pavilion also known as the San Jose Arena is located off Highway 17 in
downtown San Jose. The arena's capacity varies with the event the venue hosts,
seating up to 17,480 hockey fans.
San Jose Sharks info
San Jose Sharks tickets come with a bite in the 2005-2006 NHL season. The
defending Pacific Division Champion San Jose Sharks should have no problem
filling the seats at Hewlett Packard Pavilion. The frenzy and excitement of
fast-paced NHL action, and a run deep into the NHL Playoffs are waiting for
those with San Jose Sharks tickets.
While there was plenty of free agent action around the NHL, the Sharks stayed
away from the hoopla, preferring instead to build their team from within. While
Sharks fans may have been disappointed in the lack of big-name signings,
management believes they have enough talent already in the organization to be
competitive. After all, the Sharks did come out on top in the Pacific Division
with a 43-21-12-6 record. The Sharks were also good enough to reach the Western
Conference Finals. With a few prospects already on hand ready to step up, the
Sharks should once again challenge for a Western Conference playoff spot.
The Sharks have been to the NHL Playoffs in six of the last seven years. In
2004, San Jose Sharks ticket holders watched their team advance through the
playoffs in an unlikely scenario for such a young franchise. In the first round,
the Sharks needed only five games to dispatch the St. Louis Blues. Jumping out
to a 3-0 lead in the 2nd round against the Colorado Avalanche, San Jose stumbled
in Game 4, stumbled again in Game 5, but notched a 3-1 win on the Avalanche home
court to reach the Western Conference Finals. The ride ended with the Sharks
falling to the Calgary Flames in 6 games.
San Jose Sharks tickets have given fans a steady diet of improvement. If they
stay the course, the Sharks should once again make major progress in 2005-06.
With a coach that’s proven himself capable, a solid defense, and good strength
on the front line, the Sharks are poised to break through. That means a trip to
the Western Conference Finals and maybe a shot at the Stanley Cup for NHL fans
lucky enough to reserve their Sharks tickets in advance. All in all, The SanJose sharks may be the team to beat in the NHL's Western Conference this year.
