The Vancouver Canucks ticket and team info
Vancouver Canucks tickets have been a valued commodity in British Columbia since
1946, when the Canucks were part of what was then known as The Pacific Coast
Hockey League. Established in the NHL in 1970, the Canucks now play in the
league's Western Conference from
Vancouver's GM Place. Like most Canadian cities, Vancouver's hockey
franchise far outshines its other professional sports teams, and GM Place is no
exception.
THE COACH
Succeeding perennial BC-disappointment Marc Crawford is former Habs head coach
Alain Vigneault. Hailing from Quebec City, Vigneault spent six years outside the
NHL, finishing his break from the big leagues coaching the American Hockey
League's Canucks-affiliate Manitoba Moose. Coaching a backwater team named for a
3,000-lb. quadroped is the least of Vigneault's worries; many die-hard Vancouver
fans questioned the ability of a coach whose lackluster career encompassed a
mind-numbing two (2) goals and seven (7) assists (no, really). Legions of
Vancouver hopefuls cross their fingers, while the more cynical look at Vigneault
the NHL head coach the way Americans would look at Paris Hilton as a four-star
army general.
THE STAR
This year's highlight is team captain and 2002 MVP Markus Naslund. The
34-year-old Swede signed on for three more years with the 'Nucks, and many
mullet-sporting pundits expect ol' Nazzy to surpass the 37-goal average he's
sported (excluding the 2004-2005 season) since the '98-'99 season. With a
whopping 47 assists last season, Naslund has proven himself a useful asset to
Vancouver, despite his contributions' having been eclipsed by shoddy goaltending
and the indefatigable Vancouver tendency to stink in the post-season.
THE TEAM
If hockey wasn't the national religion of Canada, the Canucks would be washed
out. The team hasn't tasted the Stanley Cup finals since 1994, when they squared
off against most-loathed-team-in-hockey The New York Rangers. Fans and analysts
alike can expect a strong lead into the post-season, especially with all eyes on
new goaltender and former Panther pipesman Roberto Luongo. The 'Nucks should be
good to go this season, despite their shoddy kick-off having started the year
short of defenseman Sami Salo, who was out with a groin injury suffered in
training camp.
THE ARENA
Opened in 1995,
General Motors Place features 18,600 rabid hockey fans and sports 88 luxury
suites, 12 hospitality suites, and 2,195 club seats. It will be the first NHL
regulation-size rink to play host to Olympic Hockey, a major factor favoring
North American teams in 2010.
Vancouver Canucks info
Vancouver Canucks tickets are soaring to new heights, as the Canucks get ready
to begin their assault on the Northwest division in the 2005-2006 season. The
Canucks are ready to build on their success in 2004 after finishing the season
at 43-24-10-5 and locking up the Northwest Division championship. General Motors
Place will be rocking, as the boys from Vancouver set out to make their mark on
NHL history. Vancouver Canucks tickets are in high demand with Canadian hockey
buffs.
The Canucks are coming off a 2003-2004 season that had them fielding one of the
hottest teams in hockey. The Canucks narrowly beat out Colorado for a playoff
spot despite the loss of Todd Bertuzzi in the later part of the season. Bertuzzi
was suspended by the league and faced criminal charges after an assault on the
Avalanches’ Steve Moore late in a 9-2 loss in Calgary. Despite the loss of
Bertuzzi’s services, the Canucks entered the postseason facing the Calgary
Flames in the first round. After splitting the first pair of games, the Canucks
won Game 3 but dropped the fourth game, evening the series at 2-2. Falling
behind 3-2, the Canucks rallied with an overtime win in Game 6 to set up a
showdown in Vancouver. Battling to the end, the Canucks were eliminated by the
Flames in OT to end their season.
In 2005-2006, the Canucks are banking on the return of Bertuzzi to the lineup.
One of the most feared players in the NHL, Bertuzzi joins left wing Markus
Naslund and center Brendan Morrison to give the Canucks one of the best lines in
the NHL. Goalkeeper Dan Cloutier is also back, ready to make his mark after
three years in front of the net. Vancouver sports a new defensive look with the
departure of Brent Sopel and Marek Malik, giving eight-year veteran, Canuck
Mattias Ohlund his chance to take over. Ohlund contributed 14 goals and 20
assists in 82 games in 2004.
With the Canucks at full strength, there’s a sense of destiny surrounding
Vancouver Canucks tickets. The taste of the playoffs is still fresh in the minds
of Canuck players and fans. Vancouver is building on their recent success and
look primed to make a run at the Stanley Cup Finals. General Motors Place may be
the path to a Stanley Cup, so hit the road and get your Vancouver Canucks
tickets today.
